McLennan has written a delightful first book about the formation of Sumatra. When the island volcano of Krakatau explodes, Minkatau, Queen of the Krakatau Fire-Dragons is hurled from her fire-cave as far as the icy waters of the great frozen South land, where her Hatchling Prince, MoroToba is ready to be born. Once the Prince is born, he travels back to his birthplace. McLennan’s knowledge of the geography and history of Indonesia is explored through Morotobo’s eyes. He meets a variety of characters in a manner reminiscent of Aesop’s fables. McLennan has a talent for wrapping detail in an exciting tale suitable for primary school children.
